PANCHKULA: The deaths of three members of a family who were run over by an tipper on national highway 22 on Tuesday has once again raised the issue of overloaded vehicles plying on the roads of
Panchkula without any check. Though there's a ban on such vehicles, overloaded auto-rickshaws and maxicabs could still be seen ferrying passengers.
The situation is particularly bad on the Panchkula-Barwala stretch on national highway-73 and Zirakpur-Kalka patch on national highway-22.
It's not just the drivers, who are to be blamed, cops too don't perform their duties properly. On national highway-73, there are two police stations ' in Chandimandir and Raipurani ' and three police posts in Ramgarh, Barwala and Mauli, but despite all these check points there's no stopping these vehicles. Similar is the situation on the national highway-22 where these drivers flout rules without being checked by the personnel of Kalka and Pinjore police stations.
Meanwhile, residents claim that they are forced to use these auto-rickshaws and maxicabs as bus service is very poor on these routes.
On the other hand, Panchkula SP Maneesh Chaudhary claimed that he has directed all SHOs to challan overloaded vehicles. He added that they will again start a drive in coming days.
